LIVE: Anti-lockdown Protest Throughout Europe
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his ‘winter COVID-19 plan’ to the House of Commons via video link from London’s Downing Street on Monday, confirming the lifting of lockdown restrictions starting on December 2. He added that from next Wednesday, “people would be able to leave their home for any purpose and meet others in outdoor public spaces in groups subject to the rule of six.” Activities such as collective outdoor sports, weddings and religious ceremonies can resume, whilst personal care, gyms, shops and the ‘wider leisure sector’ can also reopen.
Polish and German coronavirus sceptics protest against the current COVID-19 restrictions. Corona sceptics and counter-protesters are expected to join the demonstrations from several German federal states and Polish provinces. After Germany experienced record increases in the number of coronavirus cases in October, the country entered a partial lockdown on November 2, now extended until December 20, with restaurants limited to takeaway service only. Theatres, cinemas, and public recreation centres including swimming pools, gyms, and saunas are to stay closed, while new restrictions have been put in place to limit social contact.
